Privacy Policy
Last updated: 11 May 2026
Orinode Ltd (“Orinode”, “we”) builds voice AI for Nigerian languages. This policy explains what data we collect, why, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. We comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and align with international standards including GDPR principles where applicable.
1. Who we are
Orinode Ltd is a Nigerian limited liability company, registered under RC 9486856, with primary operations in Lagos, Nigeria.
2. What data we collect
- Voice contributor data: audio recordings, transcripts, demographic metadata (age range, region, language) collected with explicit informed consent for both research and commercial use.
- Customer / partner data: name, email, organisation, role, and free-form messages submitted via our contact form or partnership channels.
- Operational data: server logs, request metadata for our API, anonymous usage analytics for our website.
3. How we use it
- To train, evaluate, and improve our speech AI models.
- To respond to inquiries, deliver contracted services, and operate pilot programs.
- To meet legal, accounting, and regulatory obligations under Nigerian law.
4. How we share it
We do not sell personal data. We share data only with: (a) contracted processors operating under written agreements (cloud hosting, payment processing, analytics); (b) law enforcement when legally required; (c) the public, in cases of anonymised, fully-de-identified dataset releases (e.g., the Naija Customer-Call Code-Switch Corpus, released under CC-BY 4.0). All public releases go through our ethics review process before publication.
5. How we store and protect it
Voice and personal data is stored on encrypted infrastructure with access restricted to authorised personnel. Production data is hosted in AWS regions with appropriate security certifications. Backup and retention periods follow the “minimum necessary” principle.
6. Your rights
Under NDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your personal data
- Withdraw consent for voice data use (forward-looking; we cannot delete data already used to train released model checkpoints, but we will not include your data in future training)
- Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission
7. Voice contributor compensation
Voice contributors to Orinode's foundational corpus sign explicit consent agreements and are paid above-market rates. Voice talent for our text-to-speech voices (“Aria Voices”) license their recordings to Orinode under perpetual commercial buyout agreements. See our Ethics Framework for the full contributor policy.
8. Cookies & analytics
Our website uses minimal cookies for essential functionality. We do not use third-party advertising trackers. If we add analytics, we will use privacy-respecting tools (e.g., Plausible, self-hosted Umami) and disclose them here.
9. International transfers
Some of our infrastructure providers operate outside Nigeria. Where personal data is transferred outside Nigeria, we ensure equivalent levels of protection through standard contractual clauses or processor agreements.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our practices evolve. Material changes will be announced via our Updates page. Continued use of our services after changes constitutes acceptance.
